How We Charge

How We Charge

When it comes to paying for legal services, there are several types of fee structures available depending on the matter and its complexity.

Charging an hourly rate is the most common form of pricing in most law firms. In this model, attorneys and supporting staff (such as paralegals or legal assistants who work under the supervision of your attorney) track their time, and the client is billed based on the hours worked on the case.

Other professionals who use this model include freelance writers, accountants, financial advisors, and some healthcare professionals.

Retainer-Based Fee Structure

Our law firm primarily works on an hourly rate basis within a retainer-based fee structure. This means that we may ask for a retainer payment up front to be held as a security deposit. Then, each month, you will be billed for any work on your matter at the hourly rate. Your retainer will be applied to your final bill upon resolution of your matter and any amount remaining will be returned to you.

How It Works

After an initial consultation, we will quote a retainer depending on the complexity of the matter. Our team will prepare a fee agreement for your review and signature that explains the payment terms and lists the hourly rate of the members of your legal team.

Once the fee agreement is signed and the retainer paid, our attorneys will work with you to design a legal strategy with your objectives, your budget, and your desired outcomes in mind.

Flat Fee Matters

Some matters at our firm are handled on a flat-fee basis. We offer flat-fee pricing on legal projects that are predictable and limited in scope.

Matters that we typically handle on a flat-fee basis include:

  • Litigation consultations
  • Franchise agreement and FDD reviews
  • Contract reviews
  • Single-member LLC formation
  • New medical practice set-up consultation to discuss the structure, regulatory issues, scope of practice and the prohibition against the corporate practice of medicine)
  • Med spa, IV hydration, or ketamine clinic consultation to discuss structure, regulatory issues, and other legal considerations; an organizational chart is optional

Call our offices to discuss your potential flat-fee matter. Our team will explain what is included in the flat fee and what we will need from you to get started.

Any services beyond the scope of the initial flat-fee project will be billed at the hourly rate.

Contingency Fees

Some attorneys – especially personal injury attorneys – work on a contingency basis, meaning you typically don't have to pay any fees upfront. Instead, the attorney's payment is contingent upon the successful outcome of your case.

Our law firm does not accept cases on a contingency basis. Many of the legal matters we handle, such as transactions and litigation, do not necessarily end with an expected financial windfall, so it would not make sense to count on a portion of those proceeds to cover our time and expenses.

How Much Will My Matter Cost?

Some matters are straightforward, and your attorney may be able to provide you with a rough estimate of what it may cost to handle your matter. Litigation is difficult to estimate because so much depends on the opposing party’s responses and legal strategy.

Discuss your budget and any financial limitations with your attorney in your initial consultation. Your attorney will take your budget into account when developing your legal strategy. Your attorney will also advise you if the matter may not be cost-effective to pursue, especially in the case of litigation.
