Thomas earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Baylor University. He attended South Texas College of Law where he graduated with honors in 2012 and was also a member of the school's Law Review and Transactional Law Certificate Program.
His career has included experience in both outside and in-house counsel roles. As an associate in one of the nation's largest leading health law firms, Thomas advised a variety of health care organizations and professionals in the transactional, operational and regulatory aspects of the health care industry. Prior to his outside counsel role, Thomas served as assistant general counsel and vice president for a multi-specialty hospitalist group. These roles provided insight and understanding to appreciate the daily challenges and issues various providers are faced with when practicing medicine or running their business.
Exclusively focused on provider issues, Thomas has counseled hospitals, long-term care facilities, surgical centers, laboratories, pharmacies, diagnostic testing facilities, advanced practitioners, physicians and physician groups and others on a variety of legal issues, including, but not limited to: Stark law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA, False Claims Act, fraud and abuse, Medicare and Medicaid appeals, provider enrollment, Texas Medical Board and Board of Nursing complaints, physician recruitment, employment agreements, corporate governance, compliance, and merger and acquisitions.
Thomas is also an officer and member of the Health Law Section of the Houston Bar Association. When not in the office, Thomas spends his time with his wife and their five sons and three daughters in a variety of activities: science experiments, bike riding, sports, puzzling, reading, tea parties, video games, and cooking. It is never a dull moment in the Bonura household.
