Kelly Christy is a business and commercial litigation attorney who represents companies and business owners through complex contract disputes and commercial litigation matters. Her practice includes substantial experience in the energy sector, where she represents oil and gas operators, service companies, and mineral owners in disputes involving lease agreements, operating agreements, and technical drilling and production issues.

Kelly's litigation practice developed naturally as she gained experience handling complex commercial disputes, and she is drawn to matters that require understanding both the legal issues and the underlying business or industry considerations. She enjoys the strategic side of litigation – working through complicated facts, identifying the issues that matter most, and developing an effective approach to resolving a dispute.

Before joining Hendershot Cowart P.C., Kelly represented oil and gas operators and other energy-sector clients in private practice, where she reviewed and interpreted lease agreements, operating agreements, and other instruments in complex commercial and energy-sector disputes, working closely with engineering, petroleum, economic, and accounting experts to build her clients' cases. Earlier in her career, she represented clients in business, commercial, real estate, and intellectual property litigation.

When a new client comes to Kelly with a problem, she starts by understanding their objectives and the facts underlying the dispute, then identifies the key legal and practical issues and works with the client to determine the most effective path forward. "Clients appreciate that I am responsive, straightforward, and willing to take the time to understand both the legal issues and the practical concerns affecting their business."

Kelly earned her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, ranking in the top 10 percent of her class at South Texas College of Law Houston, and her Bachelor of Science in Political Science, magna cum laude, from Texas A&M University.

Originally from Dallas, she moved to Houston for law school and has remained in the city since. She is a board member and conference chairman of the Texas Aggie Bar Association, where she has helped plan and coordinate the organization's annual continuing legal education conference for more than 150 legal professionals. Outside the office, Kelly enjoys playing sand volleyball and exploring Houston's restaurant scene.
